GGT's Environment
The route for the Goldfields Gas Pipeline was selected to traverse previously environmentally disturbed pastoral land. The Goldfields Gas Pipeline is buried to ensure minimal impact on the landscape.
As we operate across more than two-thirds of the largest state in Australia we need to be sensitive to the needs of a range of ecosystems and the broader social environment, including the needs of all land owners. GGT maximises the involvement of pastoral landowners to disseminate its environmental policies.
Our commitment to ensuring we minimise the effects of our service on the environment is demonstrated at all levels of GGT; from helping resource companies to lower greenhouse emissions through the use of natural gas, to protecting areas of sensitive flora and fauna along the pipeline route.
The Goldfields Gas Pipeline is operated under an ISO 14001 accredited HSEQ Management System, which is recognised with respect to environmental management as a best practice environmental management system.
Environmental management is a cornerstone of any planning for extensions or upgrades we undertake and we work closely with the Western Australian Government and local communities to ensure all environmental regulations are strictly adhered to.
This extends to our use of contractors for specialist services to the pipeline. All contractors are expected to take on our environmental values and demonstrate them in their work.
We are also committed to continually improving our environmental standards through regular industry communication via the Australian Pipeline Industry Association and other industry bodies.
Through these associations we can access the collective knowledge of pipeline operators Australia-wide and draw on their experience to build a virtual tool kit of best practice environmental standards for our own operations.
